My day in pictures--June 16, 2005.
I went to the eye doctor and got two of these:

And then I did this:

So now I have contacts. For more information on this experience, click here.

Although I don't leave my office for another month, I had my goodbye party yesterday. This was my awesome cake.

Then I went to see Bloc Party.

They definitely met my high expectations. They had tons of energy and demonstrated great musicianship (especially their drummer, who is just amazing). Highly recommended. Click here for more pics from the show.

Edit: Apparently, this was a bad show for them. The sound was all screwed up (guitar was too quiet, backup vocals were too loud)--which I noticed, but managed to get past. So if a bad show was that fun, I suspect a good one would be LCD Soundsystem quality.

Then I went to sleep.

Yeah, it was a good day. It's always nice when you can recognize them while they're happening.

That's what bad days are for.
I'm having a particularly rotten day right now, but if it weren't for days like today there's no way I'd know a good day even if it bit me in the ass.

If a day bites you in the ass doesn't that, almost by definition, make it a bad one?

NAY!

The NIGHT time is the RIGHT time to be bitten on the ass!

How was Bloc Party? I've been hearing great things about them lately.

They kicked a lot of ass. It was a terrific show, my 3rd in 5 days! They only have the one album, though, so they pretty much played every song they've got and it was still a fairly short set. But they were really good.

I had contacts for a week but I had the hardest time removing them.

I switched back to my trusty Coke-bottles shortly thereafter.

In short, I gots no patience for innovation.

I learned something important about removing contacts today--it's a lot easier if your fingers are dry. When I was practicing in the doc's office yesterday, I had saline solution all over myself, and it was hard to gain purchase on the lens.

But yeah, I can understand why you did that. We'll have to wait and see how it goes for me.

Almost a decade ago, I had a thyroid condition which adversely affected my eyesight. As a result, I started by needing reading glasses and as I have gotten older, my vision has gotten progressively worse. According to the fellow next to Lencrafters, I'm on the last stage before going to bifocals, so the window where I could use contacts is closing fast. I have considered getting them, especially since I had never wore glasses in the past and hooray for you having the guts. I don't know why, but my irrational fear of poking myself in the eye has seemed to have won out over my strong sense of personal vanity.

That irrational fear is shared by pretty much anyone who doesn't wear contacts, as far as I can tell. There's just something creepy about rubbing your fingers on your eyeball.

That seems really early for a party. Are they having like an entire month of parties to celebrate? That would hurt my feelings.

Also, is that a car or one of those shoes with roller skating wheels that click out of the bottom?

I hate contacts. I wore them for about a month, but they really irritated my eyes. Plus, it's really expensive to buy three at a time. People always look at you funny when you order three, until you show them.

Actually, they still look at you funny even then.

The party was that early because there are three of us leaving in the next month or so. So to conserve cake funds they toasted us all simultaneously.

I think it's supposed to be a car, but there was some debate about whether it might be a shoe.

I hate contacts, too--job advancement should be based on merit and accomplishment, not who you know.

Okay, I just got that. I read it earlier and I thought, "Uh...okay." Now however, I get it.

Funny! You! You're a funny guy! You! You!

i had contacts in colleges, but once i finally scored a wife i threw em away and went back to my natural nerd state. glasses for the last 9 years, and haven't looked back. i did keep a pair for when i was a firefighter, cause glasses don't work so hot in bunker gear.

there are just two awesome puns in that comment. i score.
